Match Notes 2018: at Kentucky

The Lady Vols head to Lexington for a mid-week match vs #26 Kentucky, before taking an eight day break from competition.

  • MATCH NOTES

    • Tennessee is 30-49 all-time vs Kentucky. UT is 1-9 in their last ten meetings, and 3-7 in their last ten on the road.

    The UT/UK series is the most played and longest continuously played series in program history. Both sides claim different matches, but according to Tennessee Wednesday’s match will be 80th since their first meeting in 1973. The teams have played each other every year since at least 1978.

    Prior to this season, Tennessee had won 2 of their last 20 matches vs ranked opponents. In 2018, the team has matched that total, winning 2 out of 4 matches vs ranked opponents.

    The Lady Vols are 3-6 since 2001 in televised matches vs Kentucky. Two of those three wins came when the Wildcats were the higher ranked team.

    • Freshman of the Week: After someone pointed out on VolleyTalk that every team in the top ten of the SEC standings had earned multiple player of the week honors with the exception of Tennessee with none, the conference took note and began to rectify the situation… or maybe Lily Felts earned the Freshman of the Week award on her own! Felts’ award is just the 5th league honor by a Lady Vol in the last 5 years.

    UT in the polls: Tennessee is receiving votes in the latest Coaches Poll, coming in at an unofficial #27. UT is #25 in PrepVolleyball’s Top 64 ranking. They’re #30 in the RichKern.com Poll. The Lady Vols are also #30 in the Pablo Ranking. They’re receiving votes in the VolleyTalk Poll, just outside of the rankings at #26.

    Local recruiting: The local newspaper has a great piece about elite local talent at K2 Volleyball Club and Tennessee’s attempt to keep them local for college.
