Tennessee splits matches at CSU Invite

The Vols moved to 4-0 on the season after defeating Eastern Michigan in four sets this afternoon (25-20, 25-22, 19-25, 30-28). Bri Holmes had 17 kills while Alyssa Andreno was just behind with 16. Andreno hit .467 and had 5 blocks as well. Erica Treiber had 10 kills, hit .500, and had 4 blocks. Raina Hembrey had 9 kills and 5 blocks. And Kendra Turner had 8 kills, 3 blocks, and doubled her previous career high with 8 digs. Sedona Hansen picked up a double double with 53 assists and 17 digs. Bridgette Villano dug up 18 balls, while Brooke Schumacher contributed 10 more.

In the second match of the day, Tennessee fell to homestanding Cleveland State in a tightly contest five set match (27-29, 26-28, 25-21, 25-22, 18-16). Tessa Grubbs led the match with 23 kills. Hembry had 15, hit .407, and had 4 blocks. Bri Holmes had 15 kills as well. Erica Treiber had 10 kills and 3 blocks. Hansen earned her second double double of the say with 45 assists and 13 digs. Villano had 27 digs — one shy of her career best and the 40th most in a UT match all-time.

As a team, UT had 10 aces vs CSU, good for the 11th best total since 2001. But the match marked the first time since 2013, and the 23rd time in school history, that Tennessee lost a match after leading 2-0.
