- Congratulations to Erica Treiber on earning her second SEC Freshman of the Week award.
“Treiber posted a .389 hitting percentage and averaged 2.25 kills, 1.63 blocks and 3.31 points per set against Alabama and Missouri this past weekend. She led Tennessee in blocks in both matches, leading the team in that category nine times this season and is the per set leader (1.14). Treiber was second on the team in kills vs. Alabama and was tied for the team lead against Missouri. Starting all 19 matches of her freshman season, her season hitting percentage of .357 ranks eighth in the SEC.”
Treiber is the first Vol to earn a weekly conference honor twice in a season since 2013, and the first freshman since 2011 to do so.
- Tennessee will play the first of six televised matches planned for this season on Wednesday night. The Vols take on LSU in Baton Rouge on ESPNU at 9pm ET. Since 2011, UT is 24-32 when playing on TV, and 2-3 when the opponent is LSU — though they have won the last two in a row vs the Tigers.
- UT is 15-13 on Wednesday nights since 2001.
- The Knoxville News Sentinel recently profiled libero Bridgette Villano. Head coach Rob Patrick: “She took her game to another level and then it took our game to another level”. Villano: “Whatever you want, you have to work hard for it; it’s not given to you. That’s just kind of how I grew up. That’s the atmosphere here and the culture that Rob has set.”
- Speaking of Villano, after her recent 28 dig performance at Auburn, I added a new section to the stats pages. Check out the all-time match high page for an up-to-date listing of the best individual efforts in kills and digs in UT program history.
