The Lady Vols almost completed a big comeback but fell just short in the fifth set vs Mississippi State this evening (25-18, 29-27, 18-25, 19-25, 15-13). Kelsey Bawcombe had 17 kills and 17 digs to earn her second double double. Jami Lea also had 17 kills and fell just short of the double double with nine digs. Kendra Turner put down ten kills and six blocks. Shealyn Kolosky had seven blocks, while Ashley Mariani added in six, Iesha Bryant five, and Raina Hembry three more. Taylor Johnson got the first double double of her UT career with 34 assists and 14 digs. Lexi Dempsey had 21 assists. Megan Hatcher was back on the court and shattered her career high with 25 digs. Bridgette Villano contributed 14 and Kanisha Jimenez eight more.
Tennessee led the Bulldogs in kills, hitting percentage, assists, and blocks. Their 18 team blocks were the most by UT since 2012. Mississippi State’s .086 hitting percentage was the lowest by a winning UT opponent in the rally scoring era.
