Tennessee earned their first home win of the year by defeating Mercer in a tight five set affair (25-21, 20-25, 25-20, 22-25, 15-13). The Lady Vols took Montana State down in much quicker fashion with a 3-0 sweep (25-17, 25-15, 25-23). Freshman Kelsey Bawcombe was named to the All-Tournament team. Much more soon.
UPDATE: Against the Bears, the first five set match of the year, Bawcombe had 17 kills, hit .317, served two aces, had four blocks, and got her first ever double double with 15 digs. Kendra Turner also had 17 kills. Kanisha Jimenez had ten kills and 13 digs, for her third career double double. Iesha Bryant put down five blocks, and Shealyn Kolosky had four. Lexi Dempsey got a double double with 44 assists and 15 digs. Bridgette Villano had 12 digs and seven assists. Mid-2012 was the last time three players earned double doubles in a single match.

Jimenez led the team with 11 kills vs Montana State, hitting .450. Bawcombe had nine kills and seven digs. She also had four aces — the eighth most by a Lady Vol in a sweep since 2001. Kolosky hit .500 with six kills and no errors. Lexi Dempsey picked up career double double #20 with 30 assists and 10 digs. She also had three blocks, including her very first solo. Ashley Mariani also had three blocks.
